Nirdu is The House

Now on to the wrestling awards for the year of 2006. It was a damn good year in the realm of wrestling, with ROH having one of its greatest years ever due to the fantastic reign of Bryan Danielson. NOAH put on great matches year round and even saw some young blood in Naomichi Marufuji win the GHC title. The WWE even had its good spots, with Rey Mysterio and Edge having breakout years and exciting feuds. Without further ado, here are the wrestling awards for the year 2006.

Wrestler of the Year

Bryan Danielson
Who can question that this was the year of Danielson. Though he didn't end the year with the title, for the other 360 days he absolutely dominated the roster. In the process he brought five star level matches damn near every show. Danielson went out of his way to put on some of the best matches with the standards like Homicide, Roderick Strong and Samoa Joe, but also other people like Delerious. His match with KENTA is sure to be great, and that feud even entered the rings of NOAH where he was tapping people out left and right. His legendary title run cements 2006 as the year of the American Dragon Bryan Danielson.

Tag Team of the Year

Austin Aries & Roderick Strong
The team that ruled the tag division of Ring of Honor for most of the year definately deserves this award. Every title match was a thing of glory for this Generation Next duo. Both are contenders for the top title in the company, yet put them together and they are a solid unit that can mesh with the best teams in the world. A feud with the Kings of Wrestling, a match with KENTAFuji, and participation in the Dragon Gate invasion are many of the reasons why this team takes top honors.

Match of the Year

Naomichi Marufuji vs KENTA, GHC Championship, October 29th
Honestly, this may be the hardest time I've ever had deciding on a single MOTY. This year produced so many unbelievably good MOTYCs that I had to really consider this for a while. In the end I made the hard choice of choosing Marufuji's first title defense and KENTA's first title shot. This was the second match of 2006 for these two, and while the first one was a great MOTYC this match was just that much better. A botched moonsault to the outside damn near killed Marufuji and KENTA broke his nose. Yet they both kept up the pace and continued this five star classic. It's five stars, I don't care what anyone says. If you refuse to pull the trigger this year, you are a prick. This match was beyond glorious and just shows the bright future for both of these stars. I'm sure they'll both have MOTYCs in the future. Viva NOAH.

For defending the ROH Championship with style and grace and ass-kickyness. If you want a better explanation go read why he was wrestler of the year, the reasoning is just the same.

Promotion of the Year

Ring of Honor
Unbelievably good booking, great foreign stars, excellent feuds, new top wrestlers, suriving when they were supposed to be dead, recognition, and incredible growth. Ring of Honor had another great year and they were at the pinnacle of pure wrestling, and even had mainstream elements. They are slowly becoming contenders in the world of wrestling, expect the E and TNA to feel threatened soon. Or not. Cause they don't have to threaten anyeone. They just gotta keep on having years like this.

Worst Wrestler of the Year
Mark Henry
Why does this talentless, boring, never had a good match, fatty reject still have a job? He injured like four top wrestlers legit, and then injured himself. He's actually gotten worse over the years and still nobody cares. Yet he gets huge pushes into title matches at ppvs?!?!?! What the fuck! At least Vince decided to give King Booker the "black guy" title win instead of this loser.

Worst Promotion

It would've been NJPW if they had kept the belt on Lesnar. Yet again it is the WWE. They suck, it's boring, I don't know half the guys and matches don't go over 6 minutes even on PPVs for some reason. Highlight of the entire year has been Edge, who has entertained throughout. Other than that and CM Punk, I'd rather get a blowjob from a hippopotamus than watch the WWE.

Worst Champion

Brock Lesnar
His reign as IWGP Champion was supposed to help NJPW in the long run by bringing in more fans and introducing the company to the world. In the end, all it did was give Brock Lesnar more money than his stupid ass is worth. This piece of shit couldn't have a match longer than 10 minutes, squashing estbalished stars like Yuji Nagata and Manabu Nakanishi. Dream matches that were glorified crap. His never toured with the company, appearing all of three times this year. On the day he was supposed to lose the title, he just decided not to show up and to never lose the title. What a egomanaical fuck. He also stole the physical belt. In the end he hurt New Japan, the credibility of the title and himself. He is the definition of a poor sport, and I hope he has to watch his son get raped and murdered right before he is raped and murdered.

Glass Ceiling Award

Shelton Benjamin
After having a few good years, Benjamin has floundered and found no real success nor a strong push. He is one of the most talented wrestlers in the WWE and could really be a superstar, but found himself on the wrong show as his push continually goes nowhere. He has proved time and time again that he is worthy of a real main event push, but instead he went down a level and is reteaming with Charlie Haas in a weak heel role. Let's hope he is allowed to reach his potential and not held down anymore.

Please Die Award


Vince McMahon and Stephanie McMahon
For the first time ever, Vince isn't the only winner here. The damn near retarded decisions of his daughter Stephanie have led me to co-award her with this title. Vince continuing to push only what he thinks is right, and destroying anything that becomes popular in a way differently than he intended earns him this award for the fourth year. Stephanie being a total cunt and shooting down every good idea that comes along and pushing for the same old, and in some cases worse, shit also co-earns her this award.
